Mickoski defends Hungarian loan amid calls for investigation

North Macedonian Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski has defended a one-billion-euro loan from Hungary, stating the funds were used transparently to address national debts inherited from previous administrations. Mickoski emphasized that the loan is part of a strategic partnership and expressed confidence that Hungarian institutions will conclude their internal investigations regarding the matter.

Conversely, the opposition party SDSM is demanding that the Macedonian Prosecutor's Office launch its own investigation. They cite concerns over potential criminal activity and the origin of the funds, noting that the Hungarian national investigative bureau has reportedly seized thousands of pages of documentation related to Exim Bank.

Separately, Hungarian Prime Minister Péter Magyar has announced that Hungary does not support an accelerated EU accession process for any candidate countries. This stance follows discussions with European Council President Antonio Costa and marks a significant position regarding EU expansion.
