Hungary pledges ongoing aid to Carpathian Hungarians and supports faster EU accession for Ukraine

Hungarian parliamentary committee chair Nacsa Lőrinc announced that Budapest and Kyiv have reached an agreement on restoring minority rights for the Hungarian community in Carpathian Ruthenia. He called for the implementation of Ukrainian guarantees, the continuation of Hungarian state support—particularly in education, community organisation, humanitarian and social programmes—and the reopening of cultural exchanges such as the Petőfi scholarship trips.

Separately, Hungarian officials are weighing a move to help accelerate Ukraine's EU accession by backing the opening of two new negotiation chapter groups. EU sources say the step could give momentum to Kyiv's enlargement process, although summer bureaucratic delays mean substantive progress is unlikely before September.
