Hungary promotes five mountain lakes and Szekszárd sights for summer tourists

Hungary is urging travelers to visit five picturesque mountain lakes, known locally as “tengerszem,” which were created when former quarry and mining pits filled with rain and groundwater. The sites include Megyer‑hegyi tengerszem on Megyer Hill in Sárospatak, the Apci tengerszem near the Mátra foothills, Jósvafői tengerszem in the Aggtelek National Park, Rudabányai tengerszem in Borsod‑Abaúj‑Zemplén, and Mulató‑hegyi tengerszem above Erdőbénye. Each features steep rock walls, clear water, walking trails and, in many cases, protection as nature reserves, making them popular for family hikes and fishing.

In the wine‑rich city of Szekszárd, a range of cultural and natural attractions are highlighted for the summer season. Visitors can explore Béla király Square with its historic ruins, the Babits Mihály Memorial House and the Mészöly Miklós Memorial House, and enjoy the region’s renowned vineyards producing kadarka and kékfrankos. The nearby Parászta nature trail, which passes archaeological sites and protected grasslands, adds an outdoor dimension to the itinerary.
