Hungary proposes new conflict of interest rules for sports leaders

The Hungarian government is planning to introduce strict new conflict of interest regulations for the sports sector. Under the proposed rules, ministers, state secretaries, members of the Hungarian and EU parliaments, and party leaders would be prohibited from holding leadership positions in any sports organization employing more than 500 registered athletes. This restriction would remain in effect for four years following a person's departure from their political office.

The announcement has drawn significant reactions from political figures involved in sports management. Tamás Deutsch, associated with MTK, faces potential removal from his leadership role due to these upcoming changes. Meanwhile, Gábor Kubatov, linked to Ferencváros, has expressed defiance against the proposed legal restrictions, asserting that his commitment to the club remains unchanged despite potential new laws.
