Hungary recalls squishy dumpling toys due to health risks
Hungarian authorities have withdrawn squishy dumpling toys from the market after an inspection revealed that 89 percent of the 2,325 units tested failed to meet safety regulations. The investigation, led by the National Commission for Commerce and Consumer Protection (NKFH), covered 114 commercial entities including shopping malls, department stores, and online retailers.
Laboratory testing conducted by the NAV Expert Institute found that every sample tested contained ingredients that could pose serious health risks. Specific dangers identified include strong chemical odors resembling gasoline or thinner, and the potential for internal gel to leak if the toy tears, which could cause skin irritation or chemical burns. Additionally, some toys contained flocking powder that could be inhaled, potentially causing respiratory issues.
Beyond chemical concerns, many products lacked essential identification such as model numbers, manufacturer details, or importer information. Despite carrying CE markings, over 70 percent of the tested products lacked the necessary technical documentation or EC declarations of conformity. As a result, 108 market surveillance proceedings have been initiated to prohibit the distribution of these unsafe products.
