Hungary records 22% jump in new apartments in first half of 2026

The Hungarian Central Statistical Office (KSH) reported that 6,278 new residential units were completed in the first half of 2026, a 22 % increase over the same period a year earlier. Growth was strongest in county towns (32 % rise) and also notable in the capital and other cities (22 % increase), while villages saw an 18 % rise.

In Budapest, 2,224 new apartments were finished, with 83 % concentrated in four districts: District X (832 units), District XIII (476), District I (277) and District XI (272). Other major towns saw large deliveries, including Székesfehérvár (217), Kecskemét (154) and Szeged (122). Overall, the average size of new homes grew to 94.5 m², up 1.0 m² from the previous year, and 68 % of the units were built for sale.

Based on building permits and simple notifications, 16,588 apartments are slated for construction nationwide in the first half of 2026, 29 % more than in the same period of 2025. The capital received permits for 6,560 units, a 9.5 % rise year‑on‑year.
