Hungary records slowest fuel price increase in EU for June 2026

Eurostat data show that Hungary's fuel and lubricant prices rose by only 2.3 % year‑on‑year in June 2026, the smallest increase among all EU member states. The EU average rise was 13.7 %, making Hungary's growth roughly one‑sixth of the bloc‑wide rate. While the figures reflect the rate of price change rather than absolute levels, they indicate that Hungarian motorists faced a much more moderate price climb compared with neighboring countries such as Romania, where prices rose over 23 %.

The slower pace follows a broader slowdown in EU fuel inflation after double‑digit jumps in earlier months. Month‑on‑month, diesel prices fell by 6.4 % and petrol by 4.2 % across the union in June, with diesel becoming cheaper in every member state. Hungary’s modest annual increase highlights a deviation from the sharper rises observed in Bulgaria, Lithuania, and Finland during the same period.
