Hungary refuses to adopt EU migration pact in its current form

Hungarian Interior Minister Gábor Pósfai told parliamentary committee members that Hungary will not draft nor submit a national implementation plan for the European Union's migration pact, and it does not intend to do so in the future. The government accepts only the pact’s technical‑assistance pillar, conditioned on approval by a country confronting mass migration, and it opposes the quota‑distribution, financial‑relief and solidarity pillars.

At the EU Justice and Home Affairs Council meeting in Luxembourg, no agreement was reached on the pact. Pósfai also discussed bilateral talks with Austria’s interior minister, noting Hungary’s opposition to maintaining internal border checks and exploring joint border‑region monitoring instead.
