Hungary releases detailed data on wages, pensions and housing‑loan affordability
The Hungarian Central Statistical Office (KSH) reported that in April 2026 the average gross salary for full‑time employees was 772,200 HUF, with an average net salary of 541,200 HUF and a net median salary of 436,400 HUF. Using these figures, Bank360 calculated that a 40 million‑HUF mortgage over 25 years would generate monthly payments of roughly 264,000–312,000 HUF at a 6.45 %–8.51 % annual interest rate. Under the state‑backed Otthon Start program, a 50 million‑HUF loan would cost about 232,000–238,000 HUF per month at a lower 2.87 %–3.06 % rate.
Separate KSH data on pensions showed large regional differences. In Budapest’s XII district the median pension exceeded 320,000 HUF, while in the Kiskőrös and Kistelek districts it fell below 177,000 HUF. Some districts recorded annual pension growth as high as 9 %, with others seeing 6 % increases. The gap between the highest and lowest pension levels remains about 1.8 times.
