Hungary revamps tourism strategy, bans swimming at Helikon beach and cancels Pécs‑Munich flight

A survey shows Hungarian travelers are prioritising price this summer, with younger people favouring short European trips and older citizens preferring domestic vacations. At the Helikon beach in Keszthely a temporary swimming ban was imposed after a water sample failed quality tests; nearby Libás and city beaches remain open while authorities retest the site.

The regional airline link between Pécs and Munich was terminated after the German operator became insolvent, potentially costing the city up to 300 million forints. An investigation has been launched and outstanding claims will be pursued in insolvency proceedings. Low water levels in the Danube have led authorities to prohibit access to several river sections that serve as drinking‑water protection zones.
