Hungary revises Home Energy Storage Program subsidies
The Hungarian Ministry of Economy and Energy has announced significant revisions to the Home Energy Storage Program (OETP), a 105 billion forint initiative originally launched by the previous administration. Due to a substantial decrease in the market price of energy storage units—which has dropped to less than half of previous survey levels—the government is restructuring the subsidy framework.
Key changes include a reduction in the maximum subsidy for those installing only batteries from 2.5 million forints to 1.8 million forints. This adjustment aims to ensure that the available budget can support more participants. The ministry estimates that approximately 57,000 applicants can now benefit from the program, an increase from the previously expected 42,000. The new funding structure is intended to allow applicants to purchase higher-quality or higher-capacity devices than originally planned.
Additionally, the program will now exclusively support storage units that allow for remote management. To prevent applicants from losing support due to administrative delays, the deadline for submitting eligibility documents and signing installation contracts has been extended by five months to February 26, 2027. The ministry noted that priority in the evaluation process will continue to be given to applicants from settlements with populations under 5,000.
