Hungary sees notable rise in average wages in April 2026

Hungary's Central Statistical Office (KSH) reported that in April 2026 the average gross wage for full‑time employees reached 772,200 forints, while the average net wage rose to 541,200 forints. Both figures represent year‑on‑year increases of about 9 % (gross) and 11 % (net). The median gross wage was 616,000 forints and the median net wage 436,400 forints, up 9.1 % and 11.1 % respectively. Real wages grew by 8.9 % after accounting for inflation, which stood at 1.8 % in May.

The wage growth was largely attributed to recent family‑related tax benefits introduced in late 2025 and early 2026, including larger allowances for families with three children and tax‑exemptions for mothers under 40. Sectoral data showed the financial sector leading with an average gross wage of 1,419,100 forints (about 9 % rise), while tourism and hospitality averaged 491,000 forints. Mining salaries surged by 22.8 % to 961,500 forints, whereas the electricity‑gas‑heat‑air‑conditioning sector saw a slight 1 % decline, yet still near 1.1 million forints. Regular (non‑bonus) average gross wages were 711,400 forints, up 8.4 %, with public‑sector wages growing 10.7 % compared to 8.7 % in the private sector.
