Hungary: State Audit Office and film producer respond to investigations

The State Audit Office of Hungary (ÁSZ) has issued a statement refuting allegations made by Péter Magyar regarding the office's independence and its handling of party financing investigations. The ÁSZ clarified that its audits are conducted according to law and not based on instructions from the Prime Minister. The office confirmed it is currently investigating campaign financing for multiple parties, including Fidesz and the Tisza Party, and is also examining matters related to the National Bank of Hungary (MNB) foundations.

Separately, producer Philip Rákay has responded to reports of a National Tax and Customs Administration (NAV) investigation into the budget of the film ‘Most vagy soha!’. Rákay denied any personal responsibility for the use of state subsidies, stating he served only as a creative producer and held no role in Pilvax Film Kft, the company that applied for the funding. He noted that while NAV is investigating the film's budget and contracts, previous audits had found no irregularities.
