Hungary State Debt Management Center reports strong bond demand
The Hungarian State Debt Management Center (ÁKK) reported strong auction demand in the third quarter, resulting in gross issuances exceeding time-proportional expectations. By the end of the third quarter, gross issuances reached 15,936 billion forints, representing 78.1 percent of the updated annual gross issuance target of 20,414 billion forints.
The updated financing plan follows a legislative proposal to increase the annual budget deficit and increase reserves related to European Union funds. Consequently, the net financing requirement for the 2026 central budget has risen from 5,445 billion to 7,110 billion forints. To increase liquidity reserves, the September updated plan anticipates a net issuance of 8,717 billion forints and a gross issuance of 20,414 billion forints.
High auction demand and stable Hungarian yield spreads, despite a turbulent external environment, indicate market confidence. Treasury liquidity reached a record high of 5,500 billion forints in July and remained elevated through the end of the quarter. Retail government bonds accounted for 77 percent of gross issuances within the three main financing pillars.
