Hungary tightens control of MTVA and reshuffles ATV staffing

The Hungarian parliament appointed Horváth P. András as interim chief executive of the public broadcaster MTVA. Within days he issued two orders: one sets temporary rules for the ongoing legal and financial audit, requiring his prior approval for any expense over 10 million forints and suspending new investments; the other centralises all media and press inquiries, prohibiting staff from responding without his instruction. These measures give Horváth full access to MTVA’s press e‑mail and tighten control over bonuses, hiring and other operational decisions.

At the privately owned ATV channel, a series of presenter departures and arrivals has been announced. Veteran hosts such as Egri Viktor, L. Dézsi Zoltán and others have left after years of service, while journalists and reporters including Kóczián Péter, Köböl Anita, Somos András and new faces for programmes like "Csatt" and "Start" are taking over. Summer programming will be adjusted, and new hosts are slated for the news and current‑affairs shows.
