Hungarian municipalities hold by-elections for new mayors
Several Hungarian municipalities held by-elections on September 20 to elect new mayors and local representatives following resignations and the dissolution of representative bodies.
In Bátaszék, independent candidate Béres Judit won the mayoral race with 60.24 percent of the vote. The election was triggered by the resignation of former mayor Róbert Bozsolik, who was appointed to lead the Tolna County Government Office by Prime Minister Péter Magyar.
In Niklán, independent candidate Szabolcs Hársházi was elected mayor, alongside four new members of the representative body. In Sávoly, Andrea Csallóné Matakovics secured the mayoral seat following the dissolution of the previous council, which occurred after Mayor Tibor Schuller initiated the process due to his retirement.
Additionally, a by-election was held in the second constituency of Üllő to fill a vacancy left by the resignation of Szilvia Nagyné Prém. In Budapest's X district, a planned election for Roma minority representatives did not take place due to a lack of necessary candidates.
