Hungary unveils Danube Bend festival and new 138‑m pedestrian bridge

From 7 to 16 August, Hungary will host the inaugural Danube Bend Experience Days, offering more than 90 programmes across the region, including water sports, cycling, hiking, family activities, cultural events, historic sites, gastronomy and farmers' markets.

Budapest’s chief architect has approved a privately financed 138‑metre pedestrian bridge to Óbuda Island, featuring elevators, bike lanes and lighting, together with new road links, upgraded utilities and additional parking.

The Hungarian National Gallery has extended the “Dolce Vita – Italy in two centuries of Hungarian art” exhibition until 30 August after attracting over 50,000 visitors; the show presents around 150 works by 75 artists and includes guided tours, family programmes and literary events. A separate exhibition on painter Béla Gruber will also run through the end of August.

On 6‑7 August, the Bike Park in Eplény will open a new 2.4‑km mountain‑bike trail free of charge, aimed at beginners, families and children; the park now offers nine trails in total and permits dogs to accompany owners.

The Balaton tourism season started slightly weaker, with roughly two percent fewer overnight stays in June, but demand rebounded strongly in July. Industry experts note a shift toward shorter, price‑sensitive trips and call for higher quality and flexibility in offerings.

The Hungarian Money Museum has launched a special exhibition titled “Heritage of the Gold Coin – The Rebirth of Hungarian Money,” commemorating the 80th anniversary of the forint and the return of the national gold reserve.
