Hungary updates medicinal thermal water certifications
The registry of certified medicinal waters in Hungary has undergone changes. In Hajdú-Bihar county, the K–73 thermal well in Hajdúdorog has lost its medicinal water status, reducing the number of certified medicinal waters in the county from 27 to 26. While the specific reasons for this removal were not detailed in public reports, the loss of status does not necessarily imply a decline in water quality or health risks, but rather a failure to meet the specific legal requirements for the medicinal designation.
Conversely, new certifications and progress have been noted elsewhere. The thermal well B–308 at the Sport & Wellness Hotel in Gyirmóton, near Győr, has officially received medicinal water certification for its sodium chloride-hydrogen carbonate water.
In Pest county, the thermal water in Abony has reached a significant milestone in its quest for medicinal status. A scientific study investigating the therapeutic effects of the sodium hydrogen carbonate water from well B-71 on knee osteoarthritis has been completed. The Health Scientific Council's Scientific and Research Ethics Committee approved the study's findings, allowing the certification process to move forward toward official recognition.
