Hungary’s fuel prices climb above regional average

Global oil prices have surged amid renewed Iran‑U.S. tensions, OPEC+ production limits and tighter U.S. inventories. The rise has filtered through to Hungary, where the average price of 95‑octane gasoline reached 587 forints per litre and diesel 608 forints, putting the country about 12‑14 forints above the Central‑European regional average.

A recent price comparison shows Croatia and Slovenia offering noticeably cheaper gasoline, while Austria, Romania and Serbia are more costly. For a typical 50‑litre tank, the higher Hungarian prices translate into roughly 1 000 forints (about €3) extra compared with the cheapest neighbouring markets. Analysts note that continued geopolitical friction and OPEC+ supply constraints could keep fuel prices elevated in the near term.
