Hungary's Fuel Wholesale Prices Increased; Drivers Turn to Google Navigation for Savings

Hungary's Minister of Economy and Energy, Kapitány István, signed a decree raising the wholesale and stock‑sale prices of gasoline and diesel. The net price for 95‑octane gasoline rose from 286 HUF to 290.95 HUF per litre, and the price for diesel increased from 300.48 HUF to 310.47 HUF per litre. The adjustment does not affect retail pump prices directly but aims to align Hungary’s fuel market with global price movements.

Amid rising fuel costs, Hungarian drivers are being encouraged to use Google Maps' "fuel‑efficient routes" feature. By selecting the eco‑routing option, the app suggests slightly longer but smoother paths that reduce acceleration, braking and overall fuel consumption. The setting can be tailored to vehicle type—diesel, hybrid, electric or gasoline—to optimise savings.
