Regulatory uncertainty in Hungary has forced Revolut to withdraw its crypto services, leaving Hungarian users to rely on international exchanges. Platforms such as Binance, Bybit EU, OKX and Nexo continue to operate legally, offering spot‑trade fees ranging from 0.08% to 0.10% and mostly free SEPA transfers, while card‑based purchases incur higher charges.

At the same time, a strong forint has eroded Hungary's traditional price advantage for cross‑border shoppers. Recent Numbeo data shows Romania now offers the cheapest basic food items in the region, with Hungary no longer leading on any of the 13 products examined. The shift reduces foreign shoppers’ incentive to visit Hungarian border towns, potentially lowering revenue for local retailers, fuel stations, restaurants and related services. While the stronger currency lowers import prices for Hungarians, it also diminishes the inflow of tourism‑related spending that previously supported regional economies.
