Hungary's foreign minister Anita Orbán recalls 37 ambassadors in diplomatic overhaul
Hungary’s foreign minister Anita Orbán announced the recall of 37 heads of diplomatic missions as part of a comprehensive renewal of the country’s foreign service. In a Facebook video the minister said the changes aim to align the diplomatic corps with the government’s new foreign‑policy priorities and to raise the professional standards of Hungary’s diplomatic representation abroad. The reshuffle includes ambassadors whose mandates have expired as well as those replaced for political or credibility reasons. Named figures include former TV presenter Csiszár Jenő, Vitézy Anna Zsófia (the prime minister’s cousin), former EU state secretary Takács Szabolcs and others serving in key posts such as Washington, Berlin, Moscow and Kyiv. The ministry also launched a new Deputy State Secretariat for Human Strategy and Training, headed by Arvay Eszter, to create a transparent, performance‑based career model for diplomats, modernise recruitment and provide continuous professional education. The list of recalled officials will be published in the official gazette after the president’s signature, marking the largest personnel change in Hungary’s diplomatic network since the current government took office.
