Viktor Orbán urges “resistance politics” for Hungary at Tusnad speech

Former Hungarian prime minister and Fidesz leader Viktor Orbán addressed a crowd of around 7,000 supporters at the Tusnad Summer University in Baile Tusnad, Romania. He announced that Fidesz will shift from “opposition politics” to a “politics of resistance,” accusing the newly elected TISZA government of Peter Magyar of dismantling democracy, weakening the rule of law and building an “authoritarian regime.” Orbán cited recent constitutional amendments that removed senior officials and limited parliamentary terms, describing them as a “demolition of democracy.” He likened the situation to Venezuela and warned that the government is trying to eliminate Fidesz entirely.

Orbán also attacked the European Union, urging “Patriots” to occupy Brussels, calling for the abolition of the Commission President’s post and a reduction of EU executive power, and predicted the EU will cease to exist within 25 years. He called for a broad “umbrella” to unite all supporters of freedom.

At the same event, László Tőkés, president of the National Council of Hungarians in Transylvania, appealed for territorial self‑determination and autonomy for the Székelyland region and other historic Hungarian‑populated regions in Romania, highlighting the declining Hungarian population and pressing for official recognition of these areas.
