Hungary’s thermal spa, Lake Balaton and Danube beaches open for summer 2026

Petőházi Strand and Thermal Bath in north‑west Hungary reopened on June 5 for the 2026 season, offering a heated sulphur‑rich medicinal pool alongside standard swimming facilities. About 40 % of visitors come specifically for the therapeutic water, and day‑ticket prices range from 1,900 HUF for children to 2,900 HUF for adults.

The Balatoni Turizmus Szövetség reports that more than 40 free‑access beaches line the southern shore of Lake Balaton, benefitting from the multi‑year Kisfaludy Program’s upgrades of amenities, sanitation and digital services. Prices on paid beaches vary between 800 HUF and 2,700 HUF, with discounts for students and families, and new kayak‑canae, sailing and SUP programmes are available.

Budapest’s Árasztó‑part Danube free‑beach is set to reopen on July 1 after recent water‑quality improvements. The site, which operated experimentally last year, will again allow swimmers to enjoy the river within the capital, reviving a historic tradition of urban river bathing.
