Hunkkaar: The Roar series gains acclaim for courtroom drama

The courtroom drama series ‘Hunkkaar: The Roar’, streaming on JioHotstar, has received critical acclaim for its portrayal of a 17-year-old girl’s fight for justice against an influential spiritual leader. Created by Karan Kapadia and Nitya Mehra, the six-part social thriller follows the investigation sparked by the protagonist Meenu Rawat’s accusations, involving the legal system, police, and media.

Filmmaker Karan Kapadia noted that he specifically fought to cast Aneet Padda in the lead role, believing she was the ideal choice to convey the survivor's story. Actress Charu Shankar, who portrays Meenu’s mother, Vaishali, emphasized the show's intent to challenge narratives that penalize women for the violence they endure. The series features an ensemble cast including Fatima Sana Shaikh, Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub, Raghubir Yadav, and Arjun Mathur.
