Huánuco Pampa archaeological site threatened by forest fire
A forest fire is threatening the Huánuco Pampa archaeological center, an Inca site located in the Dos de Mayo province of Peru. The area is a declared National Cultural Heritage site.
Members of the National Police of Peru, local residents, and Civil Defense brigades are working to control the flames to prevent damage to the historical structures. While authorities initially managed to suppress the fire, dry vegetation—specifically ichu grass—and wind conditions have caused the blaze to reactivate and expand. Currently, official reports indicate damage is limited to the area's vegetation cover.
