Mexico weather: Tropical storm Trudy weakens as Cold Front 2 brings heavy rain
Tropical storm Trudy has weakened into a remnant low after passing the Mexican Pacific coast, moving away from Jalisco and Nayarit. While the direct threat from the cyclone has diminished, its remnants continue to cause heavy rainfall in coastal regions.
Simultaneously, Cold Front 2 is stationary over the southeastern Gulf of Mexico, triggering severe weather across multiple states. In Veracruz, torrential rains have caused significant flooding, leading to the suspension of classes in numerous municipalities and the evacuation of families. At least four deaths have been reported in Coatzacoalcos due to heavy rains and a collapsed wall.
The front is also expected to bring intense rainfall to Tabasco, Chiapas, and Oaxaca, alongside a 'Norte' wind event with gusts reaching up to 110 km/h in Veracruz and the Tehuantepec Isthmus. Maritime authorities have suspended activities in several ports across the Pacific and Gulf coasts as a preventive measure. Relief operations, including debris removal and water supply, are being conducted by the Navy (Semar) in southern Veracruz.
