Hurricane Vance weakens to Category 1 off Mexico's Pacific coast

Hurricane Vance has weakened to a Category 1 storm on the Saffir-Simpson scale as it moves north-northwest off the coast of Mexico. According to the National Meteorological Service (SMN) and the National Hurricane Center (NHC), the system's center was located approximately 540 kilometers southwest of Acapulco, Guerrero, and 640 kilometers south of Manzanillo, Colima, as of Saturday afternoon.

The hurricane is currently producing maximum sustained winds of approximately 150 km/h with gusts up to 185 km/h. While the storm remains offshore, its circulation is generating significant weather impacts across the Mexican Pacific coast. Heavy rainfall of 25 to 50 mm is expected in southwest Guerrero, central and coastal Michoacán, Colima, and western/southwestern Jalisco. Additionally, showers of 5 to 25 mm are forecasted for Oaxaca.

Maritime conditions remain hazardous, with wave heights estimated between 3 and 4 meters along the coasts of Michoacán and Guerrero, and 2 to 3 meters in Jalisco and Colima. The Mexican Navy (Semar) has ordered the closure of the ports in Acapulco and Puerto Marqués in Guerrero due to these conditions. Forecasters expect the system to continue a gradual weakening trend due to wind shear and cooler waters, with a potential transition to a tropical storm near Manzanillo by October 28.
