Tropical Storm Vance threatens Mexico with heavy rain and flooding

Tropical Storm Vance, which recently weakened from a Category 2 hurricane, continues to pose a significant threat to Mexico's southwestern coast. The system is currently moving northwest, with its center located approximately 455 km south of Manzanillo, Colima, and 510 km west-southwest of Acapulco, Guerrero.

Meteorological authorities warn of heavy rainfall, with accumulations potentially reaching between 50 and 100 mm in several regions, and isolated amounts up to 170 mm in vulnerable mountainous areas. These conditions increase the risk of flash floods, landslides, and rising river levels. The states of Colima, Nayarit, Sinaloa, Jalisco, Michoacán, and Guerrero are among those expected to experience significant impacts.

In addition to heavy rain, the storm is generating elevated surf, with waves reported between 3 and 5 meters in Michoacán and Guerrero. The National Coordination of Civil Protection (CNPC) has deployed a Mission of Linkage and Coordination (ECO) across Michoacán, Colima, Jalisco, Nayarit, and Sinaloa to oversee preventive actions and coordinate emergency responses.
