Clinical management of delicate facial zones, such as the tear trough and perioral lines, requires a sophisticated understanding of the rheological properties of hyaluronic acid (HA) gels. Because these areas feature thin skin and high muscular activity, standard volumizing gels may result in irregularities, migration, or the Tyndall effect.
Effective outcomes depend on evaluating more than just the elastic modulus (G’). While G’ measures resistance to deformation and lifting capacity, successful superficial placement also requires consideration of cohesivity and viscosity. High cohesivity allows a gel to remain a single unit under shear stress, while specific viscosity levels ensure the gel can be extruded through fine-gauge needles to minimize micro-trauma during delicate procedures.
