Hyaluronic acid in skincare and wrinkle prevention

Overview

Dermatologists note that wrinkles are caused by genetics, environmental factors, and the decline of collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid. While hyaluronic acid is used to plump and smooth skin by binding water, consumer testing has shown varied results in topical applications.

A study by the magazine ‘Öko-Test’ evaluated 24 hyaluronic acid serums. While some products were rated highly for being free of harmful substances, four popular drugstore brands failed the test due to the presence of problematic ingredients.
