Hyderabad and Cyberabad police conduct major drunk driving crackdowns

Traffic police in the Hyderabad and Cyberabad regions conducted intensive weekend enforcement drives to combat drunk driving. During the operations, hundreds of motorists were apprehended for driving under the influence of alcohol.

In Cyberabad, 292 offenders were booked, with two-wheelers accounting for the majority of violations at 240 cases. Other violations included 40 four-wheelers and 12 three-wheelers. Breathalyzer tests revealed significant intoxication levels among many, including 14 individuals with Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) levels between 301 mg/100 ml and 550 mg/100 ml.

In a separate drive in Hyderabad, police apprehended 397 drivers between September 11 and September 12. This group included 320 two-wheeler riders, 48 four-wheeler drivers, and 28 auto drivers. Authorities noted that three offenders had BAC levels at or above 300 mg/100 ml.

Police have emphasized a zero-tolerance policy toward drunk driving to ensure road safety. Officials warned that those causing fatal accidents while intoxicated may face charges under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, which carries a maximum penalty of 10 years of imprisonment.
