Hyderabad and Telangana monsoon deficit narrows as heavy rains continue

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast thunderstorms and moderate to heavy rainfall across Hyderabad and the wider Telangana state through August 8. The recent downpours have reduced the monsoon rainfall deficit from about 20% at the end of July to roughly 5% currently, and officials expect the shortfall to narrow further as rain persists.

Districts such as Kamareddy, Medak and Rangareddy recorded excess rainfall, while the IMD issued heavy‑rain alerts for Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Mulugu, Nalgonda and Suryapet. Residents were warned of gusty winds of 30‑40 km/h and advised to take precautions during thunderstorms. The rains are also expected to improve water levels in state reservoirs.
