Hyderabad authorities raid sweet shops over food safety violations

Authorities in Hyderabad have conducted extensive raids on multiple sweet and savory manufacturing and retail units to combat food adulteration and safety violations.

The Telangana Standards Authority for Food and Essential Drugs (TG SAFE), alongside police, inspected 32 units across the Core Urban Region. The crackdown uncovered hygiene issues, improper storage, fungal infestation in vegetables, and the use of expired ingredients. During these inspections, officials seized 15 tonnes of food articles valued at Rs 30 lakh, lifted 35 samples for suspected adulteration, and issued various notices. The license of Burfi Ghar in Bachupally was suspended.

In a separate operation, the Uppal Police Special Operations Team raided Balaji Pawan Sweet Shop in the Pocharam IT Corridor. Police seized approximately 30 kg of kalakhand, along with various other sweets and synthetic food colors. The shop operator, Kamal Kudkudia, was taken into custody. Authorities have advised consumers to verify manufacturing and expiry dates and to purchase products only from trusted establishments.
