The enforcement drive that began with a late‑May spice‑manufacturing raid in Delhi, where 800 kg of adulterated powders were seized, has broadened into a nationwide crackdown on food fraud and safety violations. Early August inspections of Twinkal Star Sweet House, Platform 65 and Bahar Cafe highlighted missing hygiene safeguards and prompted licence‑suspension recommendations. On August 4, H‑FAST seized about 25 tonnes of spices contaminated with industrial dyes, fabric colours, talc and rice‑bran oil across 13 establishments, arrested three suspects and invoked Section 110 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, treating the adulteration as an attempt at culpable homicide. On August 20, Malkajgiri police seized over 11,000 kg of adulterated spices and food products from manufacturing units in Medipally, including Sai Tirumala Enterprises. Authorities discovered chilli powder mixed with sawdust and expired products being repacked with fresh dates to deceive consumers. The seizure, valued at approximately Rs 25 lakh, led to the apprehension of two individuals. On August 26, the Telangana Standards Authority for Food and Essential Drugs (TG SAFE) and police inspected 32 units across the Hyderabad Core Urban Region. The operation uncovered hygiene issues, improper storage, fungal infestation in vegetables, and the use of expired ingredients, resulting in the seizure of 15 tonnes of food articles valued at Rs 30 lakh.
