Hyderabad building collapse kills two workers in Madhapur

A seven-storey under-construction building collapsed in the Anjaiah Nagar area of Madhapur, Gachibowli, Hyderabad, on a Saturday afternoon. The incident resulted in the deaths of two workers, identified as Mahabat and Umesh, who were from Madhya Pradesh and were performing tile work at the site. Several other individuals were injured when debris fell onto adjacent apartment buildings.

Investigations indicate the structure was built on a small plot of approximately 50 to 60 square yards and allegedly encroached upon a nearby drain (nala) without required setbacks or municipal permissions. Local officials noted that construction had previously been halted for several months due to lack of authorization, but work reportedly resumed illegally.

In response to the tragedy, the Cyberabad Municipal Commissioner suspended the Madhapur Town Planning Officer, Santosh Kumar, for failing to prevent the illegal construction. Authorities have initiated demolition of the damaged structure and are conducting stability assessments on neighboring buildings. Residents of nearby apartments have been evacuated as a precaution, and criminal cases have been registered against the building owners.
