IPS Trainee Uday Krishna Reddy detained over sexual harassment in Hyderabad

Hyderabad police took trainee IPS officer Uday Krishna Reddy into custody on 28 July 2026 and transferred him to Attapur police station after a female officer filed a complaint on 19 July alleging sexual harassment, intimidation, voyeurism and blackmail at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy between 23 June and 10 July. The complaint listed offences such as abusive messages, recording a private video and forcing the victim to reveal phone passwords. Police registered the case under sections 74, 75, 77, 78, 79, 127(2) and 351(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and sections 66E and 67A of the IT Act. When officers attempted to serve notices at two Hyderabad residences, Reddy could not be found and his mobile was switched off; he later said he was in his native village Ullapalem, Prakasam district, Andhra Pradesh, visiting his ill grandmother. On 21 July he attempted suicide by consuming excessive alcohol, was hospitalized, and toxicology showed only alcohol. He had previously sought a High Court order to quash the FIR; the Telangana High Court denied interim protection. Reddy denies the allegations, claiming a consensual relationship with the complainant and asserting he possesses evidence of that claim.
