Overview

In mid‑July 2026 a female trainee at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy filed a FIR accusing IPS trainee Uday Krishna Reddy of repeated sexual harassment, assault, stalking and related offences. Reddy denied the allegations, claimed the relationship was consensual and said he possessed evidence to that effect.

After the complaint he attempted suicide by consuming excessive alcohol; he was hospitalized and toxicology showed only alcohol. The academy suspended him while investigators pursued the case under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Information Technology Act.

The Telangana High Court on 21 July deferred Reddy’s petition to quash the FIR, and on 27 July denied his request for interim protection from arrest.

Police located Reddy, who had been unreachable and claimed to be in his native village of Ullapalem, Prakasam district, visiting an ill grandmother. He was taken into custody on 28 July and transferred to Attapur police station. The FIR lists offences including abusive messages, recording a private video, intimidation, voyeurism, blackmail and forcing the victim to reveal phone passwords. Charges were registered under sections 74, 75, 77, 78, 79, 127(2) and 351(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and sections 66E and 67A of the IT Act.

The criminal investigation continues, raising questions about the handling of harassment allegations within police training institutions.
