Hyderabad Metro Phase II expansion seeks consultants amid approval delays
The Hyderabad Metro Phase II expansion project is currently in the planning and approval stages. The proposed expansion covers 122.9 km across seven corridors with an estimated cost of ₹38,595 crore. The project is intended as a 50:50 joint venture between the Central Government and the Telangana state government, though it still awaits necessary central funding and regulatory approvals.
In an effort to accelerate implementation, Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited (HMRL) has initiated the process of appointing General Consultants (GCs) to supervise and coordinate construction for four major corridors: Raidurg–Kokapet (11.6 km), MGBS–Chandrayangutta (7.5 km), LB Nagar–Hayathnagar (7.1 km), and Miyapur–Patancheru (13.4 km). The deadline for submitting consultancy tenders for these roles has been extended to October 22, 2026.
While other Indian cities like Chennai and Bengaluru have seen recent progress in their metro networks, Hyderabad’s Phase II remains pending major clearances. Additionally, the project faces complexities regarding the takeover of Phase I from L&T, including ongoing valuation and refinancing processes involving SBI Capital Markets.
