Hyderabad metro and infrastructure expansion
Overview
The Hyderabad Metro Phase II expansion project, a proposed ₹38,595 crore joint venture between the Central and Telangana state governments, is moving through planning and procurement stages. Initially, the project faced delays regarding central funding, regulatory approvals, and the valuation process for taking over Phase I from L&T.
To accelerate implementation, Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited (HMRL) sought General Consultants to supervise construction across several major corridors. By late October, two consortiums had submitted bids for the General Consultant contract for Package-1, which covers 63 km across four corridors including Nagole to Rajiv Gandhi International Airport and Raidurg to Kokapet Neopolis. The state government is expected to finalize the selection in early November.
Parallel to metro developments, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is advancing an elevated corridor project from Jubilee Hills Check Post to NFCIL Junction to alleviate traffic congestion near KBR Park. Officials have been directed to expedite geotechnical investigations and utility shifting to support this construction.
