Hyderabad police report drunk driving arrests, counterfeit currency seizure, and currency scams

Police in the Hyderabad region have conducted several enforcement actions targeting various forms of fraud and traffic violations.

In a crackdown by the Cyberabad Police Commissionerate on September 25 and 26, 97 cases of drunk driving were registered. The operation involved 76 two-wheeler riders, 15 car drivers, five three-wheeler drivers, and one heavy vehicle driver. Of those caught, 89 faced penalties, including fines, jail time, or community service. Authorities warned that driving under the influence resulting in death could lead to up to 10 years of imprisonment under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

In a separate incident, the Goshamahal Police arrested a 21-year-old man for circulating counterfeit 500-rupee notes. The suspect allegedly exchanged fake notes for genuine 400-rupee change from petty vendors. Police recovered 16 counterfeit notes totaling 8,000 rupees and are searching for an accomplice named Ashok.

Additionally, Hyderabad cybercrime police are investigating a scam where a private employee lost approximately 8 lakh rupees. The victim was lured by a social media advertisement claiming an old one-rupee note could be sold for 45 lakh rupees. Fraudsters, posing as law enforcement officials, coerced the victim into paying various fees under the guise of legal clearances.
