Hyderabad police investigate alleged egg donation racket and IVF center misconduct

Hyderabad police are investigating an alleged interstate egg donation racket involving the exploitation of women facing financial difficulties. Authorities discovered approximately 13 women, aged between 23 and 34, being accommodated in a hostel in Begumpet. These women, originating from West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Maharashtra, and Chhattisgarh, were reportedly promised approximately ₹50,000 per egg donation cycle.

Investigators suspect that Amith Sharma acted as a broker, arranging for women to travel to Hyderabad for procedures that may have lacked authorized medical supervision. The operation was uncovered during an inspection of the Ami Nita Girls Hostel, managed by Amith Sharma and Nikhat Sharma.

In a related development, police are also investigating allegations that certain IVF centers allowed patients to select egg donors based on specific physical and social characteristics, including caste, religion, and skin color. Five fertility centers have been named in official complaints filed on October 30 and 31. Authorities are currently tracing financial transactions between donors, recruitment agents, and the centers to determine if regulations regarding fertility treatments were violated.
