Hyderabad police seize over 11,000 kg of adulterated spices

Police in Hyderabad conducted raids on manufacturing units in Medipally, seizing over 11,000 kg of adulterated spices and food products. The operations targeted facilities, including Sai Tirumala Enterprises, where authorities discovered large quantities of turmeric, chilli, coriander, and garam masala powders.

Investigations revealed that the accused were allegedly mixing chilli powder with sawdust and using food colors to make inferior products resemble established brands. Additionally, police reported that expired food products were being repacked with fresh dates to deceive consumers. The seized materials, valued at approximately Rs 25 lakh, included various spice powders and the machinery used in the manufacturing process.

Malkajgiri Police Commissioner B Sumathi stated that two individuals have been apprehended. Authorities are awaiting laboratory results to determine the full extent of the adulteration and will invoke appropriate legal provisions based on those findings. The Commissioner emphasized that the intentional deterioration of food quality for profit will not be tolerated.
