Hyderabad pushes riverfront revamp and municipal map overhaul amid new CURE Bill

Chief Secretary Sanjay Jaju inspected the Phase‑I stretch of the Musi Riverfront Development Project, reviewing key sites such as Osmansagar, the Narsingi sewage‑treatment plant and the Gandhi Sarovar area. The project, approved with a budget of ₹7,345.12 crore, aims to rejuvenate a 21‑km priority stretch, improve flood mitigation, integrate sewage treatment and create a dedicated masterplan for the river confluence zone.

At the same time, the draft Core Urban Region (Integrated Governance) Bill, 2026 contains a provision (Section 312) that would allow the Telangana government to reorganise municipal wards, circles and zones across Hyderabad’s three municipal corporations – GHMC, CMC and MMC. The proposal could increase the number of wards to around 100 in CMC and MMC, reshape electoral boundaries ahead of civic elections and require public consultation, delimitation procedures and Gazette notification before taking effect.
