Hyderabad woman reports dating app suspect for extortion and threats

Police in Hyderabad have registered a case against a man, identified as Ambavari Vamsi, following allegations of harassment, extortion, and death threats made by a woman he met through a dating app.

The victim, a 33-year-old insurance company deputy manager, alleges that Vamshi took 15 lakh rupees from her under the pretense of establishing a software company in the United States. After their engagement in April, the woman claims Vamshi began demanding advance dowry payments. When her family subsequently called off the marriage, the suspect allegedly began a campaign of online abuse and harassment.

According to the complaint, Vamshi sent emails to the woman’s workplace making false claims regarding drug addiction and terrorism links involving her family. Furthermore, the woman reported receiving threats that Vamshi would kill her or throw acid on her face. The Malkajgiri Cybercrime Police have confirmed that an investigation into the matter is ongoing.
