HYDRAA initiates ₹35 crore restoration of Kapra Lake in Hyderabad
The Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) is executing a ₹35 crore restoration project for Kapra Lake, marking a key part of its second-phase lake rejuvenation programme. Approximately 60% of the work is already complete.
In a significant development, local farmers have voluntarily submitted letters of consent to hand over 70 acres of land located within the lake’s Full Tank Level (FTL) boundaries for the project. The 112.80-acre lake is recognized by the Central government as a vital wetland that supports over 470 species of migratory birds from regions including Europe and Australia.
The restoration efforts include desilting to increase water-holding capacity, deepening the lake to enhance groundwater recharge, and improving inlet and outlet systems to manage flood control. Additionally, the project will feature a walking track for public use and the installation of strong fencing to prevent future encroachments and protect the local ecosystem.
