Hypersonica raises 100 million euros for hypersonic missile development
Hypersonica, a British-German startup, has secured 100 million euros in a funding round led by American venture capital firms Lightspeed and General Catalyst. The investment brings the company's valuation to approximately 700 million euros.
The funds are intended to accelerate the development of hypersonic missile systems designed to provide European militaries with deep precision strike capabilities. These systems aim to allow for strikes on distant strategic targets, potentially including territory within Russia. The company plans to develop two types of weaponry: an advanced winged missile and a hypersonic system capable of maneuvering during flight to evade air defense interception.
CEO Philipp Kerth stated that the debate regarding Europe's need for such capabilities has concluded, noting that governments have recognized the capability gap. The project aligns with the 2024 Trinity House agreement between the UK and Germany, which focuses on mutual defense and deep-precision-strike programs. Development is expected to move into a substantive phase around 2027.
