European hypersonic defense and strike development
Overview
European defense initiatives are advancing in the field of hypersonic technology, focusing on both interception and precision strike capabilities.
Through the HYDEF project, a collaborative effort involving 16 European countries and 41 organizations, nations have completed the first phase of developing an interceptor system. This project, which recently transitioned to its second phase, aims to neutralize hypersonic cruise missiles, maneuvering ballistic missiles, and glide vehicles. A technological demonstrator is expected by 2030 to reduce reliance on foreign defense equipment.
Simultaneously, the startup Hypersonica has secured 100 million euros in funding to develop offensive hypersonic weaponry. The company intends to create winged missiles and maneuvering systems to provide European militaries with deep precision strike capabilities. This development aligns with the Trinity House agreement between the United Kingdom and Germany.
