Hyrox fitness race expands in Cardiff with dedicated clubs and standardized rules

Hyrox, launched in 2017 by former Olympic field‑hockey champion Moritz Fürste and colleague Christian Toetzke, is a global fitness competition that combines eight 1 km runs with functional workout stations such as rowing, SkiErg, sled pushes/pulls, burpees and wall balls. The event runs September to June each year and requires no prior qualification, drawing runners, cross‑trainers and fitness enthusiasts worldwide.

Cardiff hosted Hyrox's first arena event and now offers several affiliated clubs for training, including Dragon Athletic, ION Strength & Conditioning, Renegade Gym, The Colosseum Gym and CrossFit Cardiff. Each club provides dedicated Hyrox programmes, contact details and introductory courses to help athletes prepare for the race.

Participants are advised to structure training around the standardized format, adapt intensity to their level, and consult health professionals if they have chronic back, knee or cardiac issues. Proper equipment, nutrition and post‑race monitoring are also highlighted to ensure safe and competitive performances.
