HYROX expands global footprint and fitness integration
Overview
The HYROX circuit continues its rapid global expansion, solidifying its status as a hybrid racing sport that combines running with eight strength-training stations. Founded in 2017 by Moritz Fürste and Christian Toetzke, the format has spread to diverse international locations, including China, Japan, Turkey, Thailand, South Africa, Australia, and the USA. Recent milestones highlight significant growth in the Asian market, with HYROX Bangkok setting a global record by registering over 20,000 participants.
In September 2026, the competition expanded its presence in Spain and Mexico. In Tenerife, an event at the Recinto Ferial de Santa Cruz featured approximately 10,000 athletes from over 100 nationalities, including 3,000 local participants. Simultaneously, the second edition of HYROX in Acapulco, Mexico, was held over three days at the Expo Mundo Imperial to accommodate thousands of participants across Open, Doubles, and specialized Pro categories.
The brand is also strengthening its North American footprint. The 2026 U.S. fall season schedule included events in Washington, D.C., Salt Lake City, Boston, Tampa, Denver, and Dallas. As the sport professionalizes, emphasis has increased on specialized training. Coaches and gym owners are increasingly integrating HYROX-specific pacing and transitions into functional fitness programs. Athletes are encouraged to build a running engine through aerobic and interval sessions while mastering functional movements—such as sledge pushes, rowing, and wall balls—under fatigue. In mixed doubles categories, participants must navigate specific challenges, such as the requirement to use men’s weights for certain stations.
Commercially, the brand is expanding its gear offerings through a global partnership with PUMA. The “PUMA x HYROX” collection includes specialized footwear like the Deviate NITRO Elite 4, a carbon-plated racing shoe designed for multi-surface traction.
